Grandes Maestros - Eustaquia Ruiz Gomez
Eustaquia learned to weave on the backstrap loom from her mother when she was nine years old. Now, she has taught her daughter and sister to weave, and they work with her. For more than thirty years, she has also dedicated herself to embroidering traditional blouses. She has collaborated for more than twenty years with the SnaJolobil Cooperative (House of Weaving), an organization that promotes the rescue of traditional techniques. She guides weaving workshops at the Centro de Textiles del Mundo Maya, through Fomento Cultural Banamex.
In 2000, in conjunction with the program of Fomento Cultural Banamex and SnaJolobil, she began to elaborate ceremonial huipiles of Yaxchilán.
