Nawema Artesanías
I am a master craftsman of the Wounaan People and at 39 years of age, I am a man who carries within himself the territorial trajectories of the Chocoan jungle, the rivers, the Pacific coast, the Wounaan rituals and the traditional medicine of my town. I was transformed by the life in the city of Bogotá, because of forced displacement. From this place, I have managed to share with the world the cultural processes embodied in the basketry and jewelry spun with Werregue palm, and by doing so I am empowering artisan women and making the history of Chocó known. Women, by tradition, are the ones who weave as men cut the werregue bud and culminates in fine fibers to be rolled with one of the most traditional and complex techniques of ethnic cultures.
