Artisan - Ana Karen Gomez Velazquez
Venustiano Carranza, Mexico
As a third generation artisan, it has been a very nice experience to listen and be instructed by people who have dedicated their entire lives to backstrap loom weaving. My grandmothers and my mother learned to weave since they were very young when the opportunities were null. Nowadays, I do it because it is the most valuable inheritance of our family as artisans. Over time, I have been learning to create the original pieces that are almost no longer made. It takes a lot of time to make them, patience, dedication and skill. To continue with the family activity is the best thing. I only hope that the pieces are valued because of the time it takes to make them.
