My mother told me since I was little that learning to weave on the backstrap loom was something we had to know so that when I grew up and got married, this would be useful in order to dress my family. That's what I was doing until tourism began to come to our town and they were interested in buying our pieces. It was an opportunity to have a job with what they had taught me and thus be able to contribute to the expenses of my family.
