Artisan - Maria Manuela De la Cruz Hernandez
Zinacantan, Mexico
Walking around Zinacantan in every house, I could see how all the women worked on their looms as my mother and grandmother did. However, only when I finished elementary school did I begin to learn and dedicate myself to weaving on the backstrap loom. Later I began to sell my pieces to make money to get by. When the pandemic began, and there were no sales, I had to start selling my pieces to resellers who paid very poorly, but I could not live without money.
