Telares del Café
The company Telares del Café is a Calarqueña company with 12 years of experience in the production of handicrafts. We are in the craft of weaving guasca fiber in a horizontal loom, an art that is part of the Colombian coffee cultural landscape and the conservation of the memory of the people. Our story begins as artisan Consuelo Garcia learned this craft in several phases: initially she learned to handle the looms in a training of the Quindio Rural Youth program. After that she learned the technique and handling of materials and it was when she was trained by the Chamber of Commerce in the basic handling of the guasca that this material called her attention. As time went by, she made different experiments with dedication in order to achieve a more delicate and soft guasca, achieving her goal she was able to classify the guasca in hard, fleshy and soft, therefore being able to use it in different handicrafts. The first product developed was a centerpiece, which led to the Chamber of Commerce to providing her great feedback, this motivated her to go down the line of guasca fiber weaving and also becoming known in other entities such as Artesanías de Colombia and CRQ in Green Projects. Her designs are inspired by the colors of nature such as birds, flowers and fish, these are used in the warps of her looms that are transformed into a variety of products, which are then classified into different collections and having great acceptance by the added value that the artisan has given to the guasca as an innovative material.
