JUST ARTISAN MARKETPLACE

VENUSTIANO CARRANZA, WEAVING ITS MAYAN HERITAGE.
The Mayan heritage is evident in the textile art of the different ethnic groups (Tzotziles, Tzeltales and Tojolabales), it can be seen in the colors, designs and elaboration techniques.
In the municipality of Venustiano Carranza, Chiapas, artisans express their identity and represent their culture through their weaving and embroidery. From colonization to the present day, the weavings have been covered with motifs of Mayan origin. The designs can be geometric abstractions or have naturalistic forms, depending on the technique with which they are made. The creativity of the artisans is evident in the attractive and bold color combinations for weaving and embroidery. This is a reason for the appreciation of their textiles as works of art.
The textiles are made on backstrap looms with motifs and colors that show a taste for life and nature, with floral, zoomorphic and anthropomorphic motifs, as well as red, yellow, blue, green or white symbols, captured in huipiles, skirts, shawls, blouses, belts, pants, shawls and fine table linen.
Great textile works can be found essentially in cotton and wool.
For most of the textile artisans, to continue with this activity of several centuries, has been, with the intention of being able to approach to own and strangers of this culture, to the wisdom with which the typical fabrics and embroideries of Venustiano Carranza are constituted, to the secret that treasure their forms, symbols and colors, represented in the interweavings, giving this way an understanding of the history that they keep.
